Friend Arky, to answer the question above, you must first know what  Tokutei Ginou is , what its status is in the eyes of the Japanese employment service and what sectors can be applied for by holders of this visa. 

Tokutei Ginou / SSW  is a residence permit status for foreign workers in Japan. This visa status has been valid since April 1, 2019.  Tokutei Ginou  is also often interpreted as a special skills work visa or known as a TG visa. Well, migrant workers who hold  an SSW visa  can work in Japanese companies with the same rights and obligations as workers to Japan. Interesting, isn't it?

You also need to know that  Tokutei Ginou / SSW  is divided into 2 types, here is the explanation. 

2 Types of Tokutei Ginou/SSW

1. Tokutei Ginou/Specified Skilled Workers (I)

  • The first type of Specified Skilled Workers  does not take into account educational background or previous work experience, as long as they are over 18 years old.
  • Pass the Japanese language proficiency test (JLPT N4/JFT-Basic A2).
  • The contract period that can be obtained is 1-5 years with the provision that it must be renewed every year. 
  •  The first type of  Tokutei Ginou is not allowed to bring family, be it wife or children.
  • Former interns can obtain this visa without an exam (in the same field as the internship).
  • Can change jobs. 

2. Tokutei Ginou/Specified Skilled Workers (II)

  •  The second type of  Specified Skilled Workers need to have experience working as SSW (i) which is a requirement for taking the SSW (ii) certification exam.
  • There is no limit to the contract period as long as it is extended by the company every year. 
  • Allowed to bring immediate family such as wife and children. 
  • Can change jobs.

So back to the initial question, can  Tokutei Ginou / SSW bring their wives or immediate family to Japan? Yes, as long as they are in the SSW (ii) category.

  4. Manufacture of Food & Beverages  (Food and Beverage Processing).

Main Requirements for Tokutei Ginou Visa for Beginners

  • Minimum age 18 years
  • Minimum high school/vocational school graduate or equivalent
  • Pass  the skill test /field test
  • Passed the interview with a Japanese company

Main Requirements for Tokutei Ginou Visa for Ex-Interns

  • Maximum age 35 years
  • No need for JLPT N4/JFT-Basic A2 (If available, it is better)
  • Internship information in Japan (Senmonkyu/Sankyuu or Hyoukachoushou)
  • Old passport and CV from internship in Japan
  • Passed the interview with a Japanese company
  • Pass Medical Check-Up
